A lady called Phoebe caught Paul’s special attention with her exceptional servant heart. Paul recognized her efforts as she ministered to people’s needs. Paul mentioned in his letter,
“I commend to you Phoebe our sister, who is a servant of the church in Cenchrea, that you may receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints, and assist her in whatever business she has need of you; for indeed she has been a helper of many and of myself also” (Romans 16:1-2).
Lesson:
Christians’ efforts are not limited to Sunday worship services. We are required to demonstrate Christ’s love within and without the church. It is important that we minister to others and help meet their needs. Some fellow Christians are in dire need of what we can afford. Some do not need extra material but need moral support. Each believer must be sensitive to the needs of others and make a significant effort to assist them. Whether money and material are needed or not, brethren must operate as a theme and share common love as Christ would expect them. No brother or sister in Christ should be left unattended to. Each Christian is a member of God’s kingdom; everyone must be treated with respect since we are co-sharers of God’s benefits. However, the fact that God is watching our attitude towards other brethren should be resonating in our hearts! Whatever we do to a brother or sister in Christ is what we are technically doing to God himself. God is watching us!
Prayer:
Dear God, please help me to be a relevant Christian who offers support and makes positive contributions to other brethren’s lives. Please help me to be relevant in your kingdom! Again, I want to faithfully serve you and support others. Give me the resources needed to take care of my brothers and sisters in Christ. Empower me to stand upright and support your gospel, and all that associated with it. Give me understanding and energy to do whatever is necessary to promote your name in the lives of others, so that your name can be glorified always. At the end of it all, let me qualify to hear “Weldone and welcome my good servant in heaven!” For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
