February 14 – Forgiveness

Jesus Christ challenged Christians to forgive offenses – at all costs. He stated,

“If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day returns to you, saying, ‘I repent,’ you shall forgive him” (Luke 17:3-4).

Lesson:

Forgiveness has a simple definition, and it means that we must pardon people that wrong us. We must all learn from God who sent his Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins so that he could forgive us. God suffered hurt and disappointments from human sinful activities, yet he still sent his Son to die for them! God pardons our sins without asking for a penny in return. Therefore, we should also forgive people who have offended us – without asking for a price. God will definitely bless us if we can reciprocate love for any sense of hurt and/or disappointment that we may have suffered from others.

Prayer:

Dear God, please help me to forgive people that have wronged me, and help me to demonstrate a graceful heart towards them. I know that this can be very challenging, but I also understand that your Holy Spirit can energize me to do whatever is necessary. Please make me strong, and let the devil be ashamed to see me demonstrating forgiveness towards people that have wronged me. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
