You Gain When You Follow God’s Instruction
(Passage: Judges 20)
A child of God will always have an upper over his enemies when he closely follows God’s instruction.
It is understood that some instructions appear unreasonable, but nothing is “unreasonable” when God’s instruction is involved. God is always right; you won’t regret following his leading.
Some God’s children, in the Bible, lost ground to the enemies because they failed to closely follow God’s instructions.
When civil war broke in Israel, large numbers of people (united 11 tribes) who were on God’s side lost to a single tribe of Benjamin because they were insensitive to follow God’s instruction.
United Israel knew God was on their side, but still, they lost to their opponents- until they learned how to closely follow God’s leading.
Indeed, it takes strategy to win a war, but not just any strategy wins.
Here is how it happened in the Bible, as rebels gained ground against God’s children:
The tribe of Benjamin rebelled against the remaining eleven tribes of Israel. The latter asked God for a strategy to combat their rebel brothers, God responded, but the people only followed God’s instruction to a certain extent. Therefore, they could not win the battle.
United Israel lost to the enemies because they failed to closely follow their God-given strategy.

Failure is not an option for a child of God
The united Israelites who lost to their counterparts (Tribe of Benjamin) were not discouraged. They knew something was wrong; they investigated the course, and they discovered the secret.
Children of God who had loosely obeyed God in the first place realized their mistake and adjusted. They improved to follow God’s instruction closely- And the effort paid off.
United Israel made another attempt to apprehend their enemies; they succeeded. They brought the opponents to their kneels as they won a decisive victory.
The scripture reported how united Israel conquered the Tribe of Benjamin.
It is reported,
“But when the cloud began to rise from the city in a column of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them, and there was the whole city going up in smoke to heaven. And when the men of Israel turned back, the men of Benjamin panicked, for they saw that disaster had come upon them. Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel in the direction of the wilderness; but the battle overtook them, and whoever came out of the cities they destroyed in their midst…
…They surrounded the Benjamites, chased them, and easily trampled them down as far as the front of Gibeah toward the east. And eighteen thousand men of Benjamin fell; all these were men of valor. Then they turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon; and they cut down five thousand of them on the highways…
…Then they pursued them relentlessly up to Gidom, and killed two thousand of them. So all who fell of Benjamin that day were twenty-five thousand men who drew the sword; all these were men of valor” (Judges 20:40-46).
Lesson on Following God’s Instruction and Winning
God still leads people today; he leads his children to take appropriate steps that will benefit their lives. Things often don’t work out as expected when someone loosely follows God’s instructions. A child of God should not consider defeat as an option. If you fail,
