January 14 – Studying The Word Of God Is An Essential Weapon For Believers

God appointed Joshua as the Israelites’ leader and encouraged him to be courageous for his task. He promised to help him possess the land that he has promised his people. God said to Joshua,

“Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory. No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you” (Joshua 1:3-5).

In addition to his promises of victory for Joshua, God also gave him the secret of success. He told Joshua he would remain a successful leader if he could consistently meditate in his word (scriptures). God said,

“Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” (Joshua 1:7-9).

Children of God are required to consistently meditate in the word of God to be blessed. The word of God, which is the bible, enlightens people’s minds to understand God’s principles and act rightly. Understanding God’s word also helps believers to operate in accordance with God’s original pattern for their lives. That is, a person who is devoted to studying God’s word will receive the divine anointing to walk in an original pathway that God has designed for his/her life – This will result in receiving God’s automatic blessings. Also, studying the word of God earns believers strength to overcome Satan’s plots. A person who consistently studies his/her bible will always have upper hands over the enemy since he/she will be able to discern any dirty game the enemy intend to play and be adequately prepared to resist it. Something more important to mention, relating to consistent bible study, is that Satan finds it difficult to withstand prayers that are complemented with scriptural verses. The enemy stumbles when he hears a Christians quoting the word of God in his/her prayers – and he flees! Hence, since much benefits are embedded in the practice of consistent bible study, believers should prioritize it, and practice it with all diligence.

Dear God, please make me a devoted Christian who daily and consistently study your word so that I can prosper! Help me to form a habit of consistently studying your word! Let my bible become my best friend, and let me meditate in it day and night so that I can prosper on earth, and also inherit your kingdom. Let your word enlighten my heart and brighten my face so that I can prosper throughout the days of my life. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
