David punished some fellows that killed King Saul’s son Ishbosheth. He refused to meet their reward expectations for helping him to attack his enemies. Instead of honor, David punished them! The scripture reported,
“But David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said to them, “As the Lord lives, who has redeemed my life from all adversity, when someone told me, saying, ‘Look, Saul is dead,’ thinking to have brought good news, I arrested him and had him executed in Ziklag —the one who thought I would give him a reward for his news. How much more, when wicked men have killed a righteous person in his own house on his bed? Therefore, shall I not now require his blood at your hand and remove you from the earth?” So David commanded his young men, and they executed them, cut off their hands and feet, and hanged them by the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ishbosheth and buried it in the tomb of Abner in Hebron” (2 Samuel 4:9-12).
Lesson:
Children of God may not necessarily need to use a physical weapon against their enemies. God is well and able to defend his own children with his supernatural strength. God never fails. and he picks a battle to fight for his people. Once God is involved in any battle, the story end will be unimaginable! Hence, we children of God should allow the Creator to operate as he wishes. We should not attempt to help him in a battle since he knows the best medium to fight and have victory. All people should reserve their trust in God of heaven – who is the only indomitable and indefatigable deity. He is an infallible Jehovah God who fights victoriously for his own people.
Prayer:
Dear God, please help me to trust you in all situations, and help me to affirm trust that you will help in every situation that comes my way. Do not let me take laws into my hands against the adversaries. I know that you can help, and you will surely help me! Therefore, grant me patience and grace to allow your full operations in my life. Let me allow you to handle every matter in a way that will honor and glorify your holy name, and bless my life. For in the name of Jesus Christ your Son I make my requests. Amen.
