May 9 – God Is Sovereign

David’s best friend (Ahithophel) disowned him, and he wanted him dead by all means so that he could be promoted by Absalom. Ahithophel knew David well; he had been his confidant for many years. He knew David’s area of strength and wickedness, and he was ready to trade their friendship to secure a prominent position with Absalom that deposed his father. Meanwhile, David understood the danger that surrounded him. Therefore, he cried to God for help. David asked God to frustrate Ahithophel’s counsels – and that was exactly what God did! Ahithophel’s counsel became irrelevant to Absalom, and he was embarrassed. The traitor was so frustrated to the extent that he took his own life. How amazing God helped a helpless David triumph during his difficult moment!

Bible reported,

“Then someone told David, saying, (A)“Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” And David said, “O Lord, I pray, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness!” (2 Samuel 15:31).

“So Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “The advice of Hushai the Archite is better than the advice of Ahithophel.” For the Lord had purposed to defeat the good advice of Ahithophel, to the intent that the Lord might bring disaster on Absalom” (2 Samuel 17:14).

“Now when Ahithophel saw that his advice was not followed, he saddled a donkey, and arose and went home to his house, to his city. Then he [a]put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and he was buried in his father’s tomb” (2 Samuel 17:23).

Lesson:

Evil people cannot flex their muscles forever, God will deal with them! Since God has the power to arrest anyone, he will surely arrest and reward wicked people accordingly. Meanwhile, children of God that may be undergoing any horror of distrust and disappointment should take heart; God will fight for them, and he will defend them to his satisfaction. However, children of God are encouraged to place their absolute trust in God. Our absolute trust must not be placed in any man or a woman, it must be placed in God. Man is fallible but God is not! Man has traces of imperfections, but God does not have an iota of imperfection. If man disappoints us, God will never disappoint us!

Prayer:

Dear God, please teach me how to trust you in all circumstances of life. Do not let me cast my absolute trust in a fellow human being who is fallible. Let me place my 100% trust in you at all times. Also, let me remain confident that you will defend my interest – even in my absence. You will ensure my safety, and you will not allow the enemies to share your glory in my life. For I have prayed by faith in the name of Jesus Christ your Son, Amen.
