Sin Irritates God; Believers Must Abstain From It
(Passage: 1 Samuel 31)
An outcry against sin may not be widespread in our present day, but we cannot deny the fact that God hates. It is not in God’s nature to entertain sin; therefore, those who engage in it risk his punishment.
The instance that suggests how God could react to an act of disobedience could be found in the Bible (1 Samuel 28). The Creator turned his back against King Saul when he needed him most because of his disobedience.
God refused to answer Saul’s prayer during the war, and he did not direct him on how to handle an impending war. The king of Israel became frustrated and compromised his moral standard to seek evil medium/agent.
All to the detriment of his soul, King Saul fell from grace. He lost the battle and eventually died in the hands of his enemies.
The Bible reported King Saul’s ordeal (that arouse as a result of his trespass against God),
“Then the Philistines gathered together, and came and encamped at Shunem. So Saul gathered all Israel together, and they encamped at Gilboa. When Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart trembled greatly…And he said, “Please conduct a séance for me, and bring up for me the one I shall name to you.” (1 Samuel 28:4-8).
…Now the Philistines fought against Israel, and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines and fell slain on Mount Gilboa…So Saul, his three sons, his armor-bearer, and all his men died together that same day” (1 Samuel 31:1-6).
God Punishes Those Who Dwell In Sin
Sin irritates God, and it causes God to make a tough decision against his children. Since God requires that all people obey him, he would not turn around and bless a disobedient child!
The Creator will bless any individual or a group of people who obey his instructions, but he would enforce his justice on those that dwell in evil.
Everyone is called to fear the Lord and obey his instructions so that we can prosper.
Sin takes people far away from God. Abstain from sin and never lose God’s benefits.
Pray For Grace To Follow God’s Instructions
Dear God, please do not let me provoke you with sin so that I will not incur your terrible judgment. Do not let me abuse your grace, but help me to duly follow all your instructions so that it can be well with me on earth. Also, please help me to repent whenever I realize I have sinned. For in the name of Jesus Christ, I have prayed. Amen.
