Pastor W.F. Kumuyi: “God Will Choose the Successor in His Time”

Lagos, Nigeria – In a heartfelt sermon, the General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, reminded believers that the future of the church rests in God’s hands, not man’s opinions.

Addressing growing conversations about succession, Pastor Kumuyi spoke with conviction, affirming that God alone appoints leaders for His people—just as He did in the days of Moses and Joshua.

“Your father in the Lord is still here. Are you tired of me? You are not going to fight your husband, fight your Shepherd. If God wants to give a successor, He will do it in His own time,” he declared.

Leadership by God’s Appointment

Using biblical examples, Pastor Kumuyi encouraged members to trust God’s timing. He explained that while the church has leaders serving in different states, regions, and nations, the ultimate choice of a successor is not man-made but divinely orchestrated.

“The successors are there, but when the time comes, the Lord will choose the man after His own heart,” he affirmed.

Standing Firm in Conviction

Pastor Kumuyi also shared his unwavering stand against outside pressure, making it clear that his ministry is led only by God’s conviction.

“I reject anyone trying to control me. I won’t even take it from my wife, because I am the head of the home. When I stand with conviction, nobody will put me under,” he said boldly.

A Life Poured Out for the Gospel

Despite his age, Pastor Kumuyi continues to travel globally—preaching in the United States, Canada, Ghana, Liberia, and across Africa—carrying the same message of holiness and revival. He revealed the personal sacrifices behind his calling:

“I don’t generally sleep until 2 a.m., sometimes 2:30. What am I doing? I’m digging into the Word… I am using all I can to give the best to the church,” he explained.

Encouragement to the Church

Instead of focusing on succession, Pastor Kumuyi urged believers to keep their eyes on Christ and remain steadfast in faith and obedience.

“Let’s continue in faith. Let’s continue in faithfulness. We will not fall at last,” he encouraged.

His message serves as a reminder that the church belongs to Jesus Christ, and in His perfect timing, He will raise the right vessel to continue the work. Until then, Pastor Kumuyi assured the church of his continued service:

“I’ll keep on teaching until I go. And when the time comes, the Lord will choose.”
