God desires unconditional love from his children. He wants us to serve him without a hidden agenda. He will bless us if we serve him well, but our services must not be solely based on any favor that we intend to get. Christians’ motive of service should be similar to what Prophet Habakkuk stated in the scripture,
“Though the fig tree may not blossom, Nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fail, And the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, And there be no herd in the stalls—Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The Lord God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer’s feet, and He will make me walk on my high hills” (Habakkuk 3:17-19).
Lesson:
Christians are not different from other people; we have our own past (sweet and sour) experience. Meanwhile, Christ found us, cleaned us, and saved us. Of course, we may still lack one thing or the other, but our motive behind serving God must be unconditional. Some circumstances might have drawn us closer to God, but those circumstances have become secondary. Our primary motive is to serve God unconditionally! Christians must serve God whether it rains or shines. We must beautifully serve God – whether our surrounding factors are good or bad. Children of God cannot afford to become obsessed with their problems and allow them to mar their relationship with God. A child of God must remain committed to God – whether his/her expectations are met or not! However, our heavenly Father is ever able and strong to cater for us. He will meet our needs and satisfy us if we can prove unwavering and unconditional love for him.
Prayer:
Dear God, enough of playing games with you! I am determined to get serious in my relationship with you. I will not serve you for what I intend to get only, but I will serve you unconditionally. I will devote my time and energy to sing beautiful songs and sincerely pray to your holy name. I will serve you: share your gospel and support those who share it. I will allow your Holy Spirit to teach and lead me into the truth of the scripture. Again, I declare that I have sold out my total heart for you Jesus! My loyalty and unconditional love shall remain for you, and you only! My declarations remain valid today, tomorrow, and forever! For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my affirmations. Amen!
