July 3 – No One Is Irreplaceable

Queen Vashti dishonored her husband, King Ahasuerus, in the presence of dignitaries and ran into trouble. The queen turned down her husband’s request to dance and showcase her beauty; she insulted him to mind his business as she minds hers. Therefore, the ruling cabinet dethroned her and sort for a better replacement. It was recorded,

“On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, seven eunuchs who served in the presence of King Ahasuerus, to bring Queen Vashti before the king, wearing her royal crown, in order to show her beauty to the people and the officials, for she was beautiful to behold. But Queen Vashti refused to come at the king’s command brought by his eunuchs; therefore the king was furious, and his anger burned within him” (Esther 1:10-12).

Lesson:

Pride goes before a fall! All Christians must be humble before God at all times. We must not be obsessed with positions and power. We must yield to corrections. We children of God must not forget that we are replaceable. The Creator has plenty of options, and he can easily replace anyone’s position. Therefore, all people must tremble before God, and we must not allow pride to cause us to sin against him.

Prayer:

Dear God, please teach me how to be humble before you. Let me yield to your instructions and corrections so that I can experience your promotions. Please save me from pride – since it will lead to destruction! Instead, let me give room for the leadership of your Holy Spirit so that I can live a victorious life on earth and enjoy your goodness in the land of the living. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
