A clear distinction exists between Old Testament priesthood and the priesthood of Jesus Christ. Old Testament priests were bound to periodically sacrifice animals to atone human sins, but Jesus Christ atoned human sins once and for all! The scripture explained
“For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins” (Hebrews 10:4). It is also written, “Every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins” (Hebrews 10:11).
However, Jesus Christ being God in human flesh provided a lasting solution as stated, “But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified” (Hebrews 10:12-14).
Lesson:
Jesus Christ saved humanity from routine sacrifices that have trapped humanity into achieving limited sin remission. The Son of God sacrificed his own life to permanently remit sins of humanity, and reconcile them back to God. (In the past, priests have sacrificed goats and sheep to atone human sins, but those efforts did not give a permanent solution – since the blood of animals could not remove sins. Jesus’ blood – full of life – was utilized to permanently atone sins and bring eternal redemption.) Hence, people who have confided in Jesus Christ and accepted him as their Savior would not need to sacrifice animals anymore, Christ has sacrificed himself for them! Anyone who confesses Jesus Christ as his/her Lord and Savior will receive forgiveness of sins, and have his/her name written in the book of life.
Prayer:
Praise God, Christ has sacrificed his life for my sins. The Son of God has removed the need to sacrifice goats and sheep for the remission of my sins! Since I am a believer in Jesus Christ, my sins have been washed away, and the crown of righteousness is waiting for me in heaven! Praise God, my name is written in the book of life; I am a child of God, and heaven is my home. Thank you Jesus Christ for saving my soul. My heart’s desire is to serve you throughout the days of my life, and this will I do as long as I have grace – so help me God! Amen.
