King Josiah was just 8 years old when he became king of Judah, and he did many remarkable things for God. He ordered God’s priests to broadcast scriptures and ordered national compliance with God’s law. It is reported,
“The king sent them to gather all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem to him. The king went up to the house of the Lord with all the men of Judah and with him all the inhabitants of Jerusalem—the priests and the prophets and all the people, both small and great. And he read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant which had been found in the house of the Lord. the king stood by a pillar and made a covenant before the Lord, to follow the Lord and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes, with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people took a stand for the covenant” (2 Kings 23:1-3).
Humans are made to comply with God’s laws. Ignorance is not an excuse for our required obedience. The Bible, which is the word of God, is affordable for everyone to possess. God has also freely furnished his Holy Spirit for all believers to utilize for godly living. Hence, all people without exception must serve God with humility and fear. The Creator will one day evaluate the performances of everyone; he will reward every effort that someone made to obey his commandments, and he will also punish every act of disobedience – up to the deepest place of hell fire.
Dear God, please help me to study and comply with your laws. Help me obey your instructions, and let me serve you with fear and dignity. Let me receive rewards of obedience, and let it be well with me throughout the days of my life. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
