YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN

A Man Must Be Born Again: Reflecting on John 3:3

According to the New Testament belief, man must be born again to begin a relationship with God. In the Gospel of John, chapter 3, verse 3, Jesus tells Nicodemus, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” These words carry profound implications and offer a powerful message about the nature of spiritual transformation.

The Call to Transformation

To be “born again” is not simply a physical rebirth but rather a spiritual awakening. Jesus calls upon all individuals to undergo a radical change in their hearts and minds. It invites us to let go of our old ways and embrace a new life in Christ. Man needs transformation because of what sin has done to the human race. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23. This transformative experience allows us to perceive and enter into the kingdom of God.

Embracing a New Identity

Being born again means accepting a new identity in Christ. It involves surrendering our old self-centred desires and adopting a mindset aligned with God’s will. This process requires self-reflection, repentance, and a willingness to be transformed by the Holy Spirit. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” 2Corinthians 5:17

A Fresh Start

Just as a newborn enters the world with a clean slate, being born again offers us an opportunity for a fresh start. It is an acknowledgement that our past mistakes and sins have been washed away through God’s grace and faith in Jesus Christ His Son. This new beginning allows us to walk in righteousness and experience the abundant life that Jesus promised.

Spiritual Growth and Renewal

The journey of being born again is not a one-time event but rather an ongoing process. As we grow in our faith, we continue to experience spiritual growth and renewal “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby, if so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious” 1 Peter 2:2-3. It involves cultivating a deeper relationship with God through prayer, studying His Word, participating in fellowship, and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide our lives.

Sharing the Good News

When we embrace the call to be born again, we become living testimonies of God’s grace and love. Our transformed lives serve as an invitation for others to experience the same spiritual rebirth. We are called to share the good news of salvation and walk alongside others on their transformation journey. After we are saved, it is required of us to seek the salvation of others. “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the very end of the age” Matthew 28:19-20

Conclusion

The words of Jesus in John 3:3 remind us of the transformative power of being born again. It invites us to let go of our old selves and embrace a new life in Christ. This call to transformation offers us a fresh start, a deeper relationship with God, and the opportunity to share the good news with others. May we all heed this call and experience the profound change that comes from the Holy Spirit.
