February 23 – Yield Not To Temptation

King Saul found himself between a rock and a hard place: The enemies who outnumbered his army challenged him to war; his soldiers were scared and they began to gradually desert him. Worse still, Prophet Samuel who was supposed to offer traditional sacrifice prior to battle engagement has not shown up for seven days. King Saul was indeed in trouble and he was running out of choices, but he has to do something to curtail the situation. However, the choice he made did not favor him. He decided to offer a sacrifice that only Prophet Samuel should offer; Samuel arrived immediately after he finished with the sacrifice, and the end result was not pleasant. Samuel said,

“You have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of the Lord your God, which He commanded you. For now the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you” (1 Samuel 13:13-14).

Lesson:

It takes God’s grace and favor to successfully overcome temptations. Also, it takes God’s favor to make an appropriate decision when someone undergoes uncomfortable situations, and pressures mount. Meanwhile, God will surely help his children that call unto him for help. He will help them to make appropriate decisions during their time of need, and he will ensure that they have victory over challenges. Hence, every child of God must learn how to call on God over any situation that comes his or her way. Nothing should be considered insignificant to be prayed about; no Christian should second-guess God when calling on him for help during distress!

Prayer:

Dear God, please give me the grace to call unto you for help when I am in difficult situations. Guide me to make an appropriate decision when I am confused, and help me to follow your instructions so that I can have an expected result. Let it be well with me always, and let Satan be ashamed over my life. For in the name of Jesus Christ, I make my requests. Amen.
