October 22 – Stand Fast In The Doctrine Of God’s Word

Paul advised Christians to stand by true faith and be careful not to get trapped with mere traditions that contribute little or nothing to God’s kingdom. Paul said,

“So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or Sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God. Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations— “Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle,” which all concern things which perish with the using—according to the commandments and doctrines of men? These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh” (Colossians 2:16-21).

Lesson:

Christians are to be careful not to live on fantasy but to stand firm with biblical principles. We must have clear standing with God and reject teachings that lack basis in the scripture. Also, we must be careful not to allow Satan to manipulate us into believing in spiritual fantasy. We ought not to entertain any revelation, teaching, or instruction which contradict the bible. However, we must cooperate with God’s Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth. We must allow him (the Holy Spirit) to prepare and keep us fit for God’s rich rewards in this life, and in heaven also.

Prayer:

Dear God, please let me be a sensitive Christian who dances to the tune of the Holy Spirit always. Guide me not to fall victim of erratic teachings that contradict the bible, but help me to cherish principles that have their roots grounded in the bible. Let me remain fit for your blessings in this world, and in heaven also. For in the name of Jesus Christ I made my requests. Amen.
